Current mood: disappointed

in one of my rare posts, I must rant . . .
[info]mctabby was kind enough to point out this blatant piece of plagiarism of my fan fic, "The Love That Shattered a Man" (from 1999), on her journal to help remind everyone that plagiarism is BAD (tm).

All hail [info]mctabby.

I just wanted to let you know that I'm on your side, even though I don't know you. I actually read your fic years ago, when it was probably quite new (well, compared to now - I'm pretty sure I read it a year after you'd "published" it). I'm a bit surprised you're still in fandom, though, as so many of the old authors seem to have vanished.

Anyway - that's not the point. The point is, the little fanbrat honestly "worries" me. I mean, it's bad enough to plagarize, but to think saying you did excuses it? Man. You don't use people's fics, no matter what.

Sigh. I'm sorry this happened! :( I told off the fanbrat earlier, if that makes you feel better.

Thanks for commenting. I'm not really in the fandom scene anymore, mainly because I got disillusioned with some things and high school, and now college, blew up in my face. I still randomly write fanfic and keep up portions of my website, though. I randomly run into fandom people at HP conferences, too, which is always trippy, heh. I try to stay vaguely alive for the sake of posterity. :) Anyway . . .

This is true. Plagiarism is a horrible problem in the real world and the internet (though sometimes it's hard to separate the two), and these notions of "it's okay to do as long I recognize that it is plagiarism" are terrible and are unfortunately increasing. I'm assuming this girl is between 13 and 16. I was thirteen when I wrote Love. She can't claim ignorance or stupidity because of her age, and I honestly can't see how anyone could be so flippant or immature about theft. ::headdesk::

heh, did you read the reviews on the story? EVERBODY was tearing the "author" a new one for plagiarising... priceless.

I'm the other author that got plagiarised.... We gotta stick together. Sorry your fic got stolen. I can't believe she actually thought she was in the clear by giving you CREDIT on it. I actually might respect her more if she were just being a malicious bitch stealing other people's work and taking credit for it... But her in case... Oy, the stupid, it burns.

I was just replying to your comments on McTabby's LJ. We do have to stick together. I'm sorry your fic was stolen, too. I E-mailed the people on the archive, though that E-mail address was kind of hard to find (urgh), and I haven't received any response. That girl deserves no respect. She's likely the age now that I was when I wrote my fic, and I never plagiarized anything. I can't believe her audacity. Urgh.

I emailed them as well. I think a couple of other people did as well, so MAYBE we'll see some action.

I'm going to be twenty-three this year... I've been writing fanfic for a decade on the web and I've never, ever thought it was all right to copy someone else's work, so age is no excuse. She's just a complete idiot.

Yes, the key word being 'maybe.' Since I'm such a recluse of the fandom now, I haven't even heard of this archive. I don't know their record on kicking out people like this girl.

so age is no excuse. She's just a complete idiot.

Whoa. That's a pretty amazing rip-off! I hope people ripped that idiot good.

On the other hand, it's sort of amazing that something from five and a half years ago could get dug up like that. Wow, has it really been so long? *Falls into musing over long-ago days...*

Plagiarism isn’t just rude, it’s insulting. I mean, do these people really think that you’re so stupid and secluded that you won’t notice or hear about them? Come on, people. If you’re gong to steal at least do it properly. :P

Hah, I was begging to wonder if this journal was alive...
